Norwegian Designer Nina Skarra Makes Fashion History

Norwegian fashion designer Nina Skarra from Tromsø (aka ‘Paris of the north’) made fashion history during this year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York: She was the first Norwegian and Scandinavian who has shown her collection at this prestigious event. The Norwegian designer has received warm welcomes by the American fashion journalists and trend setters.

Nina Skarra has worked as an illustrator and graphic designer for film and television in Norway and abroad. In 2008, Skarra launched her first clothing collection. Since then, the designer has grown rapidly into winning the hearts of French fashionistas, European royalties, stylist and celebrities, and she has been invited to show her collection at Paris Fashion Week.

Last weekend, Nina’s 2013 Spring / Summer Collection was shown at the Lincoln Center in New York. Superstars like Lil Kim, Angela Simmons, Moods of Norway and Stargate producer Mikkel Eriksen had shown up to view Nina’s elegant collection and to support their good friend.

Skarra has several Norwegians in her crew. The Norwegian shoe designer, Ingunn Birkeland, says she feels privileged to attend Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week along with Nina.

Skarra’s collections combine the purity of Scandinavian design, known for its simplicity and the use of traditional sartorial craftsmanship, quality fabrics and a sustainable production process. She has perfected a timeless and pure design while still maintaining a strong DNA and working towards values and her strong belief and work for sustainability, transparency and empowerment in the fashion industry.

With ambitions to have a ‘global impact’ on the sustainability agenda, Nina Skarra is focusing on the development of green, sustainable design. The concept of Nina Skarra’s sustainability is about the whole footprint of the product, from raw material to disposal. Her materials are silk, wool, bamboo, soya, eco leather, and organic cotton. All these materials are 100% biodegradable and 100% eco-friendly.
