Fam Irvoll (born 1980 in Oslo) is a Norwegian fashion designer known for her colorful and playful creations for women. In 2005, Irvoll graduated at Esmod Fashion School in Oslo and in 2008 at Central St. Martins in London.
Irvoll used to work as a design assistant for several international designers, including Vivienne Westwood, Gareth Pugh, Alexander McQueen and the Norwegian designer Peter Løchstøer. Since 2005, she has participated in the Oslo Fashion Week. In 2009, she launched the collection ‘Once Upon A Time’, inspired by the tale of Little Red Riding Hood, and in August 2010 she launched her first children’s collection called ‘Little Cupcakes’.
– All my collections are inspired by fairy tales, toys or cartoons. The last collection was inspired by Alice in Wonderland, with lots of cakes, ice cream and food. I want each of my collections to tell a story, Fam Irvoll said in an interview.
Fam Irvoll takes inspiration from adventurous children’s stories, cartoons, toys, food, cakes and candy. Her design stands out from other designs with a jolly, colorful and exciting use of fabric, sequins and bead work as well as the 3D knitwear. Her clothes are easily recognizable with her polka dots signature.
– I call my design ‘children’s clothing for adults’. It is made for girls who like to experiment with clothes and fashion. You need a little courage wear them, Fam Irvoll says.
Irvoll’s design has become popular all over the world and international super stars like Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Niki Minaj Marina and the Diamonds, Rihanna, Pixie Geldof, Alice Delall, Katy Perry, Tyra Banks, Paloma Faith, Lily Allen, Jessie J, Spice Girls are all big fans of Irvoll’s spectacular design.
