An anonymous giver has provided 56 Norwegian municipalities with its very own memorial sculpture in memory of the victims from The Norwegian Terrorist attacks in June 2011, that killed 77 people: 8 in the bomb blast in Oslo, and 69 at Utoya Youth Camp.
The 56 municipalities are chosen due to the loss of inhabitants either from the explosion or the shooting. In addition, two separate sculptures will be unveiled in Oslo and Utoya.
Famous artist and sculptor Nico Wideberg is hired for this prestigious job that will be unveiled June 22nd 2012, one year after the terrorist attacks. The sculptures are made of granite, raises 7.2 ft from ground and shows a silhouette of a man and a woman’s body. A memorial quote from Norwegian author Lars Saabye Christensen will be carved into the stones.
‘The silhouettes reflect how we all leave a mark, and how the victims always will stay in our minds’, says Nico Wideberg to Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten.
